How Directeam helped At-Bay build a powerful infrastructure platform on AWS to accelerate business expansion
Meet At-Bay
At-Bay is the world’s first InsurSec provider designed from the ground up to help businesses tackle cyber risk head-on. By combining industry-leading insurance with world-class cybersecurity technology, At-Bay offers end-to-end prevention and protection for the digital age.
At-Bay is a globally distributed company with hubs in Atlanta, New York City, San Francisco, and Tel Aviv.
The Challenge: Legacy cloud infrastructure limited scalability
At-Bay experienced exponential growth with an increased demand for Cyber Insurance policies as COVID-19 increased awareness of ransomware attacks around the globe.
At-Bay’s DevOps team faced many issues, limitations, and scaling problems within its legacy cloud infrastructure and therefore decided to transform its platform and migrate to AWS with the help of Directeam.
In response to growing customer demand and product development, At-Bay had to dramatically accelerate its delivery cycle, all while ensuring platform stability.
Moving from a monolithic platform to microservices on Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) was identified as the ideal solution for the company.
As At-Bay’s platform was built on large SQL database systems, the AWS migration required accurate planning and a perfect understanding of the database structure and usage to migrate the data seamlessly without affecting business processes.
Directeam’s Solution: Swift migration to AWS and Infrastructure Modernization
Directeam’s solution consisted of a robust and secure cloud architecture on AWS to support At-Bay’s scale and business nature of managing insurance policies for customers around the globe.
Directeam helped At-Bay design a multi-account strategy in AWS, to meet high-level security principles with tools such as Control Tower, AWS SSO, Organizational SCPs, and many more acting as the baseline for the entire infrastructure.
AWS offered a more robust, resilient, and cost-efficient set of infrastructure solutions, and Directeam was able to help design, plan, migrate, and support At-Bay throughout the entire process.
- Helping and training At-Bay on Adopting AWS EKS enabled R&D teams to accomplish implementations of solutions faster
- Migrated to a microservices architecture by understanding the requirements and security principles of each group of services. Built the right set of tooling to simplify the deployment, and maintenance and maximize the ease of usage for the R&D and operational teams.
- Shifted a large amount of binary data that was stored in the database to an object store based on S3. By reducing the total size of the SQL database Directeam managed to simplify the entire database migration process and re-model the data store placement.
- To keep At-Bay’s team up to date with their knowledge of the AWS Well-Architected Framework and Kubernetes best practices, Directeam as an Immersion Days certified partner delivered a set of training sessions to boost the expertise of the various teams operating in At-Bay.
The Results
Today At-Bay is running all their workloads on AWS infrastructure, enabling them to grow and scale their business without worrying about infrastructure issues and limitations.
The DevOps team at At-Bay can focus their time and resources on building and innovating on AWS, rather than fixing and patching infrastructure issues on legacy systems.
The team’s engineers gained the knowledge and experience required for them to manage and scale their infrastructure on their own.
